For the next few weeks, we will be posting our favorite notes from the American Speech Language Hearing (ASHA) Connect Conference which recently took place in Baltimore. Today's nuggets are from the opening motivational speaker, Thom Singer, whose theme was In Real Life: Connecting With People in a Gadget-Crazed World.
- When someone asks, "How are you doing?", don't respond with "I'm so busy." To reframe your answer and attitude, respond with "I'm so fortunate." Instead of complaining, your list of activities become a gratitude list.
- Find “uncommon commonalities” in order to connect with others (such as "I play the ukulele too!")
- Just saying, “hello” is a great way to begin interacting.
- “All opportunities come from people.”
